We live in a time of extraordinary alienation that has left many of us depressed, lonely, and existentially anxious. We desire more meaningful relationships, life purpose, and spiritual fulfillment yet struggle to find them. If you feel this way, you’re not crazy and you’re not alone. As a somatic-spiritual counselor, I help people make sense of these feelings and find paths to greater agency and possibility. Our culture actively creates disconnection - from community, from the natural world around us, from our own selves, and from a sense of the sacred. Devoid of these essential human needs, it’s no wonder people are desperately searching for meaning and belonging. However, our sense of alienation as modern people has a concrete source, and thus actual solutions. This source traces back to a shift from the communal, earth-based villages we all used to live in, to a new trajectory set by early civilization that began rejecting the way of nature, a communal framework for society, and the interconnectedness of life. The effects of these distortions live in our minds and bodies making us insecure, individualistic, armored, unnatural, and like the hungry ghosts described in Buddhism, endlessly consuming to fill longings that are never satisfied. But there is hope. Even if we can’t change our culture, we can live more naturally within it, and that begins with internal transformation. I’m here to help with that process. Together, we’ll disentangle the isolating ways we’ve been shaped to think, feel, and act, and begin uncovering your more authentic, grounded, and interconnected self. As we move into personal wholeness, we become aligned with a story bigger than ourself and life begins to unfold.
ABOUT SOMATIC-SPIRITUAL COUNSELING
Somatic-spiritual counseling is an integrated blend of somatic therapy, spiritual direction, and personal formation. Through these avenues, we’ll confront the real work of healing: relearning how to regulate, how to relate, and how to live without numbing, controlling, or escaping. From here we can encounter what is rooted and real.
-
Somatic Therapy: a body based approach to addressing the effects of trauma and attachment wounds that block living fully
-
Spiritual Direction: learning to experience the universe as loving rather than hostile
-
Personal Formation: cultivating the self-esteem, integrity, and character that form the basis of all healthy relating
ABOUT ME
As a Somatic-Spiritual Counselor, my work is grounded in a socio-historical understanding of the damaging effects of Western civilization, and in trauma and attachment theory. I have completed training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Level 1: Treatment of Trauma, and Level 2: Developmental and Relational Injury. I have also completed training to be a practitioner of Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor, an innovative somatic modality for addressing attachment wounds and deficits. For 15+ years I have been a minister on staff at a multicultural Daoist-Christian church, supporting both members and the community through personal and cultural healing. In 2014, I co-founded a multidisciplinary theological institute to help decolonize the mind, body, and spirit. As a pupil for two decades of an Asian-American mentor rooted in Daoist wisdom and spirituality, I am profoundly shaped by the worldview of a generous and generative universe. In my early twenties, I began trying to address my own inexplicable longings for something more alive and satisfying than what mainstream culture offered. This led me in and out of evangelical Christianity, talk therapy, liberal justice movements, and identity politics. Yet something was always missing. Somatic-spiritual counseling is my attempt to address these gaps, indebted to the mentors, teachers, and healers who have continually helped me find paths to genuine humanity and keep walking them.
MY CLIENTS
A lot of modern healing stops at self-centric growth and spirituality without the costs required to make transformation real. If you’re ready to go further, we may be a good fit. I work best with people who:
-
Are ready to take ownership of their growth and are committed to inner transformation
-
Demonstrate an ability for basic self-awareness and honest self-reflection
-
Are questioning the cultural narratives that shaped them
-
Desire integration between their heart, mind, body, and spirit

PBSP helps clients identify and heal past emotional deficits and create “new memories” to address them. These “new memories” provide symbolic fulfillment of the basic developmental needs of place, nurture, support, protection and limits. This can be a powerful modality both for those beginning their healing work and for those who feel stuck or stagnant. Learn more about PBSP here.
